Conan takes a Look at Ford

Last night Conan O’brien’s new show, Conan premiered on TBS at 11 EST, we were hoping to share with you the opener but couldn’t find it, so we thought this episode of Conan checking out a Ford Taurus SHO was fitting for the site.

Baker Calendar Contest

Each year the BAKER Calendar is a highly collected piece for most guys garages, jail cells and bathroom walls.
We carefully pick a bike each year that features our brand new product of the year, and then hand select a young lady to adorn the bike. This year our bike is being built in house by Chad – one of our Engineering Crew and it’s already looking killer!
This year we are in the process of interviewing models and thought we’d open the doors to all the public.
We are welcoming portfolios from professional and amateur models alike.
If you would like to see some of our past calendars, to get a flavor of what we’re doing – check it out! For info on how to submit your entry, visit bakerdrivetrain.com

THE MIGHTY LONE STAR RALLY SALUTES THE MILITARY

Galveston Texas is home to The Lone Star Rally – the largest motorcycle event in Texas and the second largest weekend motorcycle event in the country. “The event has become so rich and diverse with activity, manufacturers and vendors that you feel like you’re at a major bike week like Daytona or Sturgis,” said Melissa Penland of The Lone Star Rally.

From November 4th – 7th Galveston Island will roar with hundreds of thousands of motorcyclists riding The Strand and honoring the military with an appreciation themed event for 2010. The honorary Post 911 Foundation Follow the Flag Ride for Heroes gathers Friday at 4pm at The Spot, on the Seawall, and weaves its way down the Strand to Pier 21 where the Navy’s Full Steam Brass Band will serenade. All riders are invited to participate. On Saturday at 1pm the Coast Guard will do a search and rescue demonstration off Pier 21. Military displays from various branches will be on display throughout the weekend.

This year the Rat’s Hole Custom Bike Show will make its debut Texas appearance. The Rat’s Hole Show is a 30 year tradition founded by Karl Smith, Sr., aka Big Daddy Rat. If you’ve got what it takes to win the Rat’s Hole Show, show up at the Pier on Saturday morning and flaunt your bike!

Live concerts on three stages (Pier 21, Saengerfest Park and the Limpnickie Lot’s The Pit Bar on the Strand) will rock the rally with a variety of continuous music Thursday through Sunday. And the Baker Drive Train burn out ramp will be the place to show off your burn out skills in head-to-head competition. The Baker Drive Train crew will be on hand to judge the events and Jay Allen of the World’s Biggest Biker Bar, The Broken Spoke Saloon will emcee.

BMW Recall

For any of you Garage-Girls rollin’ in a beamer, be sure to check to see if your model is on the recall list….
BMW is the latest to join the parade of recalls and dealer repairs. The reason for the recall of the 130,000 twin-turbo and naturally-aspirated six-cylinder models is for emissions and safety fixes.

The problem with the twin-turbo models lies in the direct injection fuel system’s high pressure fuel pump, which can cause long-crank engine start times, illumination of the “Service Engine Soon” light, reduced engine performance in a “Safe Mode,” and illumination of the “Engine Malfunction” light.
According to BMW, depending on the service history of the vehicle, the service will involve replacement of the high pressure fuel pump. BMW expects about 40,000 of the 130,000 models recalled to require a new pump. Affected models under this recall include: 2007-2010 335i; 2008-2010 135i, 535i, and X6 xDrive35i; and the 2009-2010 Z4 Roadster sDrive35i.
In a separate recall also announced today, 20,800 2008 BMW X5s equipped with the naturally aspirated six-cylinder will be called in to replace the low-pressure fuel pump. Affected vehicles could experience complete pump failure, killing the engine and causing the power-assisted steering and brakes to lose their assist, making the vehicle much more difficult to control.
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified in the next several weeks, with repairs to be scheduled shortly after. For more information, contact BMW at 1-800-563-4269 or email BMW Customer Relations at CustomerRelations@bmwusa.com.

Munster Vechicles!

Well here it is October our favorite month of the year, we love everything about this month. The cooler weather, the colors and of course Halloween.  When you think of Halloween and cars what comes to mind….  The Munster Vehicles.  The Munster Coach and Dragula were both built by George Barris and were probably the coolest TV cars of their age.  Barris was the king of customizers in the 60s.    The Munster Coach was the family vehicle, carrying the family on their trips. Where did they go? All the same places any normal family would, and probably a few more (tar pits, bat caves, graveyards, ghost towns). Of course Herman also used it to get to his job at the local funeral parlor.
Dragula was Grandpa’s car, but was usually driven by Herman. It was first seen in the original film Munster Go Home (where Herman raced it on back roads in England) and then became a supporting prop (unfortunately rarely seen) for the remaining year of the television show. The design of the car was basically a dragster (very hip in the 60s), done up in great style by George Barris, and based on – what else – a coffin. The car survived and is hanging over a bar in Chicago. A duplicate was even offered on eBay a couple of years ago.  The Munsters was a great show and it got a lot of kids like myself interested in cool cars.
