Indian Motorcycle reveals the NEW 2016 Chief Dark Horse.

DarkHorse-24

Indian made no secret that the new Dark Horse would be built on the same platform as the rest of the air-cooled big-bore beasts. Still, the silhouette of the new machine introduces indeed a different vibe. The 2016 Chief Dark Horse drops almost all the shiny chrome and bling, and bringing forth black engine and engine case paint, black rims and a lighter build.

The 2016 Dark Horse was designed primarily as a solo machine, but you can add room for a passenger by installing a rear seat and pegs. The engine is the same Thunder Stroke 111 unit, the 1,811cc v-twin cylinders produce just over 73 hp at 4,500 rpm.
The new Indian sports true dual exhaust, ABS, cruise control, top-notch fuel injection, a comprehensive single-gauge dash loaded with telltale light indicators, an analog speedo and a LCD screen.
Dark Horse will reach the dealerships in spring 2015, and in Europe it will be sold with a neat 5-year warranty. If you’re eyeing a demo ride, start making plans for the annual Daytona Bike Week from March 7th – 14th, 2015, as the Dark Horse will be there.

Mustang Seats; 35 years in the Saddle!

mustang

Look for Mustang’s iconic “Pegasus” winged horse logo soar to new heights in 2015. New products, a new look and a new catalog commemorating this milestone kick off a yearlong celebration from the venerable seat manufacturer. Despite the new look expect the old-fashioned values of quality, comfort and customer satisfaction to continue!

“This year marks Mustang’s 35th Anniversary, so we decided to commemorate the occasion in style,” says Mustang Seats Marketing Director Marilyn Simmons. “Mustang has been handcrafting superior seats in our historic New England factory since 1980, so we really want to spread our wings this year, as it were.” According to company folklore, the name comes from the legendary P-51 Mustang fighter plane, so that became the thematic element for the anniversary edition catalog, the ads and soon to be revamped website.      Historically Mustang has been synonymous with comfortable seats for Harley-Davidson®, Victory and Metric cruisers, but the line has really “taken off” in recent years, according to Simmons. “Not only have new seat styles been introduced, but brands like BMW, Indian and Triumph have been brought into the mix. Mustang now has everything from the RunAround® — the lowest, leanest and meanest seat Mustang has ever made — to our new top of the line touring seat for the Harley® Rushmore models, the Summit.”

Mustang will also be unveiling a customer GIVEAWAYS reward program to kick-off at Bike Week in Daytona.

“All of our products are more than replacement seats — they are upgrades to your riding experience,” explains Simmons. “In the past 35 years Mustang has grown from a small operation making just a dozen seats a day, to now being a worldwide leader in the design and construction of motorcycle seats. We have gathered feedback from thousands of motorcycle riders and incorporated our own years of ‘seat of the pants’ experience with the latest CAD-CAM technology to develop our unique understanding of what riders need, and the essentials of seat design to address these needs.”

“We earn our wings with riders around the world with each and every ride,” she concludes.

Harley-Davidson, Sturgis Plan 75-year Agreement

Harley-Davidson historic Milwaukee headquartersHarley-Davidson and the City of Sturgis, S.D., are setting their sights on the future – far into the future. In the spirit of this year’s 75th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, the company and city officials are finalizing an agreement covering the next 75 years making Harley-Davidson the official motorcycle of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.”Harley-Davidson riders have attended the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally for decades. This new agreement will help fuel many more years of freedom, independence and rebellion for this iconic gathering,” said Matt Levatich, president and chief operating officer at Harley-Davidson. “Riding is a passion passed down through generations, so it’s important we celebrate the legacy and history of Harley-Davidson in Sturgis, while helping creating new memories.”
As part of the agreement, a permanent plaza will be built on Main Street in Sturgis that will include a stage for events, concerts and even weddings. The year-round location, which will be completed in time for this year’s 75th rally, will be the official Harley-Davidson destination for riders and fans alike.
“For decades, Harley-Davidson has been the motorcycle of choice for Sturgis Motorcycle Rally fans and a great partner to the City of Sturgis,” said Sturgis Mayor Mark Carstensen.  “Today it gives me great pleasure to solidify its importance by making it the official motorcycle of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.”
Sturgis: Baked into the bricks of Harley-Davidson
To ensure the new multi-purpose space builds on the legacy of the brand and is pure Harley-Davidson, the plaza will integrate bricks from the company’s Milwaukee headquarters, a building that once housed the company’s factory dating back more than 100 years.
During a news conference at the company’s headquarters, Harley-Davidson announced the planned agreement, which has an initial term and renewals running through 2090. To unveil the deal, Harley-Davidson removed a brick from the historic front entrance using a 2015 Harley-Davidson Street® 750 motorcycle. That brick, alongside one from the Harley-Davidson Museum and 73 bricks from the headquarters’ famous motorcycle-only parking area will be delivered to Sturgis on Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
Whether riders are trapped inside for the winter or riding south toward warmer weather, now is the perfect time to plan a trip to the 75th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The party starts Aug. 1, 2015, and for those who’ve had Sturgis on a bucket list, this might just be the year to attend. For inspiration and pictures from the 2014 rally, visit www.h-d.com/sturgis.

GETTING THE RUNAROUND, Mustang’s Low-Slung Seat Goes Solo For Softails

76885_appsm

Mustang Seats created some rumbling around the V-Twin industry when they introduced the lowest, leanest seat in the line-up for Harley-Davidson® Dyna and FL models this past summer. Proudly made in the USA, the new RunAround™ represented a bold look at motorcycle seating without sacrificing Mustang’s legendary reputation for quality. Only one problem — Softail riders wanted the same seat!

“Ask and you shall receive,” says Mustang Marketing Director, Marilyn Simmons. “Mustang’s designers went back to the drawing board and engineered the lowest, leanest solo seat possible for 2000-2015 Harley® standard rear tire Softails.” Actually the fitments for FLSTS 2000-2003, FLSTN 2005-up, FLSTSC 2006-2007 and FLSTC 2007-up were plotted on the CAD-CAM machine, but you get the idea. For good measure, they added most of the other 2000-2006 Softails to the mix, including FLST 2006, FLSTC 2000-2006, FLSTF 2000-2006, FLSTSC 2005, FXST 2000-2005, FXSTB 2000-2005 and FXSTS 2000-2005.

“Our combination of New England craftsmanship combined with 21st Century engineering means your RunAround™ seat looks as incredible as it feels,” adds Simmons. “A well-designed baseplate is the key to success, so that was where the engineering team started.” A narrow front width of just 10.5″ for all the Softail Solo seats works in conjunction with the low profile which keeps the rider styling… without having to sacrificing too much in terms of comfort.

The controlled density polyurethane foam can be poured a little thinner without compromising the comfort, while making for a much thinner seat pad in the process. Made in-house at Mustang’s historic Three Rivers, MA facility, the exact angle and density of each seat foam panel is formulated and cast to be soft enough for comfort, but resilient enough to retain its shape and structural integrity for years, according to Simmons.
