REMI

If you like your dogs big, beautiful, and furry, then I’m the dog for you! Remi’s the name, and fun’s the game! I’m athletic and love to run around the yard and play with other dogs. I do really well with my canine colleagues and can even be very pleasant around cats too (provided I meet them first).
I can come across as a little aloof, but that’s just my Husky breeding. I’m really a very sweet dog! My big problem is life is that I’m very noise sensitive! I don’t like loud or sudden noises, so I’d do well in a quiet environment without small kids.
Like many Huskies, I need constant training or I’ll get bored or too confident (then watch out, cats!). But I’d love to be an exercise partner or a ball-chaser for you! Come meet me at Animal Friends!

KAHUNA

Like many dogs that end up here, I was a stray. Someone found me wandering around and took me to Action for Animals, who took care of me and then transferred me here. When they got me, they had to take off my old collar that was beginning to dig into my neck! Boy, life out on the road isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
I like it a lot better here; I get to hang out with other dogs, which I like very much! My old owners taught me to sit and walk, and I love going for long strolls. If you sit down next to me, I’ll cuddle right up next to you!
Really, the only thing I don’t like is being poked or picked up in my hind quarters. Because of this I wouldn’t do well with young kids, but otherwise I’m a lot of fun. With a little training, I could be the dog for you! What do you say?
Why don’t you come check me out at Animal Friends!

O’Hara

Hello, I’m O’Hara, and I’m a great example of just how hard everyone here at Animal Friends is working to help rehabilitate dogs like me. I came from a bad home environment where I was kept in a cage and when I first got here, I didn’t know what to do!  I wasn’t even sure that I wanted to go outside at all!
But lately I’ve been getting better. I still get very, very excited when someone comes to see me in my cage, and I’d probably grow to love a whole house too. I’m still a little nervous when we’re out walking around, but I’m getting used to it…especially when I discovered how fun it is to sniff around! I’m very loving and gentle and only get a little aggressive around other dogs, so I’d do best in a home by myself.
I think that with some training and a strong handler, I could become a fantastic dog to have around the house; I already have the wiggling happily and begging for affection down cold. Can you help take me the rest of the way? Come see me at Animal Friends!

CASINO

If you’re looking for a friendly, mature gentleman to spend your time with, here I am! You can “bet” on me, Casino!

I’m here at Animal Friends because my owner had medical problems and could no longer take care of me. I’m used to being around people and love a good scratch behind the ears and long walks. And when I say long walks, that’s what I mean: as a beagle, I hope you don’t mind if I stop to sniff everything in sight!

I’d be a great companion for an older person or family, as I’m not that interested in playing. I just like to nose around and hang out with you! Please come see me at Animal Friends in Pittsburgh,PA!

Miles

You won’t find a prettier or happier-looking dog than Miles which is amazing considering that just months ago, he was rescued from a basement. No one deserves a home more than this friendly, high-energy rottweiler/german shepherd mix. Young, enthusiastic Miles is working on his manners, learning how to interact with other dogs, and would love someone to continue his training at home! Visit Animal Friends to learn more about Miles!

JAZZY

Hey cool cats! (A little feline humor there). I’m Jazzy, and I’m one of the staff favorites here at Animal Friends. With my long gray hair, you won’t find a cat who’s more fun to pet.

I should say, however, that I like to come to you. I’m fidgety when you pick me, and will struggle for a few minutes before finally settling down. It’s too much effort – just let me pick my times and then I’ll curl up on your lap.

I’ve lived with other cats and dogs, although they may not be my best friends. I like people and enjoy being groomed and stroked, and I’m just an all-around mellow, calm kitty. Stop in at Animal Friends and say hello!

GRETEL

Hello – Gretel here. There are three things I really want in life: 1. Nice long walks in the evening; 2. Naps on the couch; 3. Belly rubs! And not necessarily in that order.

Yes, things are pretty simple for me. I’m an adult dog, and I’m one of the members of the distinguished Red Collar Society. Smart people like yourself surely know that mature pets can make the best companions.

I’m already crate-trained and I’m getting over my old issues. I do need to go home with another dog, though to help me adjust. I’m looking for a nice, quiet home to move into, maybe without young children. Want a buddy to relax with? Come down to Animal Friends and meet me!

GEM

This gorgeous longhaired gray cat named Gem is definitely a jewel of a young cat. Gem adores being with people, and she isn’t shy about hopping up onto a lap for some petting and cuddling. No amount of affection could ever be too much for this lovable little lap cat.

But Gem is practically a kitten, and she still has that fun-loving and curious spirit in her soul. This pleasant gal loves to play with any kind of cat toys, ranging from a laser light to a catnip toy mouse to a fluffy feather toy. And when you watch this fluffy ball of gray fur moving so fast on her playful feet, it will be hard to tell whether you or Gem is having the most fun.

We think Gem would be happiest in a home with adults and older children.

If you’ve been looking for a cat who is perfectly precious, our Gem may be just the girl for you. She’s pretty, she’s affectionate, and she’s fun. And Gem’s love is truly priceless and far more valuable than the finest gold or diamonds. There is no question that our Gem will be a treasure to the lucky family who adopts her. Visit Animal Friends to see her!

CLAY

Can you believe that someone could abandon such a handsome dog? That’s what happened to Clay, until our Humane Officers rescued him and brought him. And boy oh boy, was he happy to see them! He wiggled his way right into their van and right into our hearts. Clay is the perfect doggie age. He’s past the crazy puppy nipping, he has a calm presence with his handler, but still can play and romp with the best of them.

We have learned so much about Clay since he’s been going to a specialty training class with one of his favorite volunteers. When Clay first arrived, he wasn’t fond of his dog neighbors. But now after 2 months of classes, Clay has realized that being around other dogs isn’t so scary. He has learned to respond calmly to other dogs by wearing a Gentle Leader and has even become the “example” dog in his class. The newbies follow Clay’s lead to see how they’re supposed to behave! This guy does his SITS like a champ and is very attuned to the person at the other end of the leash, especially when that person has a yummy treat. It’s amazing to think that someone left such an obedience star behind, You should see how Clay runs over the agility course and follows the commands of his leader with confidence and ease.

Aside from his mastery of obedience, Clay is also a snuggle bug. He’s so confident in is manhood that he readily confesses to enjoying kisses on his forehead from the ladies. If you look closely, you can sometimes see a bit of lipstick left behind! Please visit Animal Friends to inquire about Clay!

BUTTERSCOTCH

Hello, I’m Butterscotch, and as you can tell, I’m quite sweet! (Okay, I’ll stop with the jokes now).

I’m a spayed domestic shorthair who loves living with people; the only problem is, my owners left! They moved somewhere that I couldn’t go, which left me here at Animal Friends. Don’t get me wrong; it’s a great place, but I’d really prefer a nice home to snuggle up in. I especially love playing with laser pointers. Oh, and I hope you like having a sleeping buddy at night!

The one thing you should know: You can’t see it in my picture, but my right eye was removed due to an ulcerative problem. It doesn’t affect me at all – maybe a little loss of depth perception, but otherwise I’m a great, fun-loving kitty. Can you find a place for me in your home? Visit Animal Friends to inquire about me.
