HAWN

Hawn originally lost her home when her owner had to move into a small apartment, and now she can’t wait to have a home of her very own again.

Hawn is a great girl who already knows how to shake, sit, and lay down. She loves car rides and is good during baths. She is crate trained. She is almost housebroken and should learn her potty break manners quickly once on a consistent schedule.
Hawn has on occasion shared her home with small dogs, but is picky about her friends.
Because this wonderful girl is fearful of men, she will do best with an experienced dog owner. She is unsure when meeting strange people and dogs outside of her home. Her new owner would need to have the love and patience to help her overcome her insecurities by providing her with consistent structure, training, and adequate exercise. LEVI TOO

Howdy, I’m Levi Too! Let’s start by saying this: I’ve heard all the weight jokes. Yes, I need to lose a few pounds. Well, more like a few dozen pounds. You may wonder how I ended up in this situation, and lemme tell you, it’s no fun.

I was brought to Animal Friends after my old owners let me get into this condition. It’s really not my fault! If people keep putting food in front of me and don’t exercise me, let alone take me to the vet, how am I supposed to keep my weight down? It got so bad that I couldn’t even move on my own. You should have seen me when I first got here! The volunteers would put me in a wagon or a sling to take me for a walk. But even then I loved getting outside – my tail would thump away as I smelled the grass and looked up at the volunteers who took care of me.

My diet is progressing well now – I’ve already lost a lot of weight but I’m hoping to lose more. I’m actually a very sweet dog. I love people and crave their attention.

I know that I can be a handful with my condition. I’m really progressing and loosing weight already. I can’t wait until I can start to take walks again and get back in shape. There’s no question that today’s younger generation is getting into prescription drug use, you see it too often on the news, another young teen hospitalized or worse passed away from prescription drug abuse.  With many of us here on Garage-Girls with kids in their teens or about to be, we wanted to share some very important info with you on this topic.
-Prescription medications should only be used under medical supervision
-avoid self -diagnosing and self prescribing.
– Model this behavior to others and help educate them about the dangers of abusing prescription drugs.
– Store prescription drugs in locked and secure locations and dispose of medications properly or participate in a medication disposal day in your community.
-Talk with your kids, friends, and neighbors or other groups about this issue.
Why are certain substances addicting and others not?
Any drug that activates a certain pathway in the brain(called the reward center) has the potential to be addictive. Just like many illegal street drugs, some prescription medications do this and therefore, can be addictive as well. Drug treatment admissions for those addicted to prescription drugs have escalated substantially in recent years.
How Should I store these types of medications?
Many of those who abuse these types of medications (approximately 70%) get them from family or friends, often from the family medicine cabinet. Therefore, it is very important to store these medications in locked and secure areas, protected from those who may wish to abuse them.
If we talk to young people about prescription drug abuse, wont’ we just teach them to do it?
It is important to use appropriate approaches when educating young people about prescription drug abuse. For example, these  behaviors should not be glamorized or shown in a positive light. But in the information age, very specific information about any drug is as close as the internet. It is imperative to provide factual information to counterbalance the mythical impressions often held by young people.

BROSCO

1 year old male Chinese Sharpei mix

Brosco cutely tilts his head to the side with noticeable curiosity as if to say, “Ok, I am eager to learn and please. I am just waiting for the right human who is willing to teach me something new!” Brosco already knows how to shake your hand and sit. One of his favorite treats is a pig ear.
Brosco is easy to handle and will seek out as much love as you dish out. Brosco is young and still has a bit of that carefree puppy fervor to him and could unintentionally knock small children over, so he would be best suited for a home with children who are a little older.

Munster Vechicles!

Well here it is October our favorite month of the year, we love everything about this month. The cooler weather, the colors and of course Halloween.  When you think of Halloween and cars what comes to mind….  The Munster Vehicles.  The Munster Coach and Dragula were both built by George Barris and were probably the coolest TV cars of their age.  Barris was the king of customizers in the 60s.    The Munster Coach was the family vehicle, carrying the family on their trips. Where did they go? All the same places any normal family would, and probably a few more (tar pits, bat caves, graveyards, ghost towns). Of course Herman also used it to get to his job at the local funeral parlor.
Dragula was Grandpa’s car, but was usually driven by Herman. It was first seen in the original film Munster Go Home (where Herman raced it on back roads in England) and then became a supporting prop (unfortunately rarely seen) for the remaining year of the television show. The design of the car was basically a dragster (very hip in the 60s), done up in great style by George Barris, and based on – what else – a coffin. The car survived and is hanging over a bar in Chicago. A duplicate was even offered on eBay a couple of years ago.  The Munsters was a great show and it got a lot of kids like myself interested in cool cars.

Another “Killer” Treat for your Halloween Devouring
ingredients
• 1  11-oz. package  refrigerated bread sticks (12 bread sticks)
• 12    jumbo frankfurters
•    Catsup and mustard
•    Capers
directions
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Unwrap breadsticks. Stretch each bread stick to 12 inches. Wrap dough around frankfurters, letting the frankfurters show slightly through the bread. Press in capers for eyes. Bake in preheated oven for about 12 minutes or until bread is golden brown. Serve with ketchup and mustard. Makes 12 snacks.
